Dont ever let anyone tell you that you’ll never make it, that you’ll never make your dreams come true.
Good Charlotte were my first real inspiration….so many people must have told them they were screw ups who’d never get anywhere. Now look at ‘em!
Thats why Ive never stopped trying to make music happen…If you keep at it, hard enough, believe in it…I have always known it can happen.
Right now, I’m at an interesting point in my life. Things have been extremely…strange of late. And not all in a positive way, due to a lot of things I have no control over. I cant do anything about all of that though.
But of the positives, I guess there’s a few things. Some people who I’ve known for a long time have had a really amazing way of taking my mind off my worries.
And I’ve been a lot closer to some of my family than I have before. Which can only be good.
Also, my band (Bright Young Things) are really taking off right now.
We’ve got some big news coming soon which may be….almost life changing, I guess.
And its strange to be at this point.
I’m nearly 21, and I can remember the day I picked up Good Charlotte’s The Young and the Hopeless and decided I was going to be a musician. I was 14, I think…..Right away, I was scrawling lyrics on the nearest piece of scrap paper, teaching myself how to play guitar. Back then, it was punk rock or nothing.
Now fast forward to 2009….I was 20 years old, and had just come up with the idea of forming a pop duo inspired by the Pet Shop Boys and Tiesto. Very vague ideas, but it came together. I’d been teaching myself how to produce music (in true D.I.Y fashion!) since I was 15 and I just sat down and wrote the best electro/pop songs I could.
Having been a pop punk kid, I looked to pop punk to find a collaborator.
I found AJ Dyce, the former singer of a band I’d liked called Guns for Glory.
He liked the songs, we had coffee a few times…and suddenly we were sitting in a studio listening to it all come together. The producer asked how long we’d been friends, because he thought we must have known eachother for years, the way we worked together.
Anyway, in less than a year, without even an EP behind us, we have played an international support slot, met with some amazing people and are now ready to take the leap. We should have some great news soon.
Right now, I’m listening to:
